Privacy Policy

How Day One House Cleaning collects, uses and looks after your information. Last updated 4 August 2026.

Who we are

Day One House Cleaning Ltd runs the Day One House Cleaning service. We are registered in England and Wales, company number 17370226, and our registered office is 6 Southport Road, Chorley, Lancashire, PR7 1LB. We are the data controller for the personal information described on this page.

If you have any questions about this policy or about your information, email us at hello@dayonehousecleaning.co.uk.

What we do

We introduce vetted, self-employed cleaners to households in and around Chorley, and we manage the arrangement for a monthly fee. That work means we handle personal information about clients, people who ask for a quote, and cleaners who apply to work with us. This policy explains what we collect, why, and what your rights are.

The information we collect

Quote requests. Our quote form asks for your name, phone number, email address, postcode, the service you need, the number of bedrooms, and anything else you choose to tell us. We collect the same sort of details if you get in touch by email, phone or WhatsApp instead.

Clients. Once you become a client we also hold your address, access arrangements, your cleaning schedule and preferences, notes about the service, and a record of our conversations with you.

Payments. The monthly management fee is paid by bank transfer or standing order to our business account. We keep a record of the payments you make to us but we never hold your card or online banking details. We do not store your bank details on our website. You pay your cleaner directly, and we do not handle or record those payments.

Cleaner applications. Our application form asks for your name, phone number, email address, postcode, your preferred hours, your experience, and confirmations about what you can provide. If we take your application forward, we also collect references, proof of your right to work in the UK, the details of your DBS check, and proof of your insurance.

Referrals. If you recommend a friend under our referral offer, we make a note of who recommended whom so we can apply the free month of management.

DBS checks and right to work

A DBS check involves sensitive information about criminal records, and UK data protection law gives it extra protection. We view a cleaner's DBS certificate as part of vetting and record the outcome, the certificate number and the date. We do not keep copies of certificates. Right to work documents are checked and a record kept of the check, as the law requires. We only use this information to decide whether someone can clean through our service, and we never share it with clients.

How we use your information

We use personal information to respond to enquiries and provide quotes, which are the steps you ask us to take before entering a contract. We use it to run the service under our agreement with you: matching you with a cleaner, managing the schedule, arranging cover and putting things right when needed. We use it to collect the management fee. We vet cleaners because we have a legitimate interest, shared with our clients, in only introducing safe and reliable cleaners, and some checks, like right to work, are required by law. We keep business and tax records because the law requires it. We run the referral offer under our legitimate interest in growing the business fairly.

We do not send marketing emails or newsletters. If that ever changes, we will only send them with your consent. We do not use your information for automated decision making or profiling.

Who we share it with

We share with your cleaner the details they need to do the job: your name, address, access arrangements, schedule and cleaning preferences. When we introduce a cleaner to a client, each side receives the details they need for the arrangement to work, and nothing more.

We use a small number of service providers to run the business: our business bank, our website and email hosting providers, and WhatsApp for messaging when you choose to contact us that way. We may share information with our professional advisers, such as an accountant, and with authorities where the law requires it.

We never sell your information to anyone.

Where your information is processed

Most of our processing happens in the UK. Some of our providers, such as WhatsApp, may process information outside the UK. Where that happens, the transfer is covered by the safeguards UK law allows, such as adequacy regulations or standard contractual clauses.

How long we keep it

If you ask for a quote but do not go ahead, we keep your enquiry for up to 12 months and then delete it. If you become a client, we keep your records while you are with us and for up to six years afterwards, because tax and legal rules require it. If you apply to clean with us and it does not go ahead, we keep your application for up to six months and then delete it. DBS and right to work records are kept only while a cleaner works through our service, plus any period the law requires.

Cookies

This website uses only the essential cookies WordPress needs to work, for example when you submit a form. We do not use analytics, advertising or tracking cookies. You can control or delete cookies through your browser settings at any time.

Your rights

You have the right to ask for a copy of the information we hold about you, to have it corrected, to have it deleted, to limit how we use it, to object to how we use it, and to receive it in a portable format. Where we rely on your consent, you can withdraw it at any time. To use any of these rights, email hello@dayonehousecleaning.co.uk and we will respond within one month.

Complaints

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, please tell us first and we will do our best to put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.
