A plain English summary of how the service works. Last updated 8 October 2026.
This page is a plain English summary of how Day One House Cleaning works. It is here to help you understand the service, but it is not the contract. Every client signs a client agreement online before the service starts, and that signed agreement is the binding document. If anything on this page differs from your signed agreement, the agreement applies.
Day One House Cleaning Ltd, registered in England and Wales, company number 17370226. Registered office: 6 Southport Road, Chorley, Lancashire, PR7 1LB. You can reach us at hello@dayonehousecleaning.co.uk.
We source, vet and introduce a regular cleaner for your home, then manage the arrangement for you. Vetting includes an in-person interview, references, a right to work check and a DBS check, and we ask every cleaner to hold their own public liability insurance.
Cleaning costs £20 an hour all in. That is made up of two parts, and they go to two different people.
£14 an hour to your cleaner. You pay your cleaner directly after each visit, by cash or bank transfer as agreed between you. We never handle the money you pay your cleaner.
£6 an hour to Day One. This is the management fee. It is worked out from your scheduled hours and paid to us monthly in advance by bank transfer or standing order. It covers sourcing, vetting, matching, cover when your cleaner is away, replacements and everything else involved in managing the arrangement.
For example, 3 hours every week is £60 per visit: £42 to your cleaner on the day and £18 to Day One, which comes to around £78 a month in management fees. The online booking form on our website shows the figures for your own home before you commit to anything.
The management service has a one month minimum, counted from your cleaner's first visit. After that it rolls month to month and you can end it with two weeks' written notice. An email is fine. If you have paid for days beyond your end date we refund that part within 14 days.
You can cancel within 14 days of signing your agreement for any reason and get any management fee back in full. If you ask us to start arranging your cleaner within those 14 days and then cancel, you only pay the management fee for visits that have already taken place.
You get the same cleaner each visit wherever possible. If your cleaner cannot make it, we arrange cover or we put it right. If you do not need a visit, give your cleaner and us at least 7 days' notice and it comes off your next monthly fee.
Cleaners introduced through Day One House Cleaning are self-employed. They are not employed by us. What we provide is the vetting and the ongoing management of the arrangement, and the cleaning itself is agreed between you and your cleaner with our help.
The client agreement includes a non-circumvention clause. While you are a client, and for 12 months after, you agree not to engage a cleaner we introduced to you other than through the service. If you do, an introduction fee applies. This protects the work that goes into finding and vetting good cleaners.
Tell us. Whether it is a missed visit, a standard issue or anything else, contact us and we will put it right. Email hello@dayonehousecleaning.co.uk or call the number on our contact page. We aim to respond within 2 working days.
We use your details to run the service, which includes sharing your name, address and contact details with your cleaner. Our privacy policy explains what we hold and why.
